iPhone, iPod messenger clues in latest iPod software

An AppleInsider member by the name of VL-Tone recently dissected the latest iPod firmware update and made some interesting discoveries.

I don't believe this is fake as this has been corroborated by several people and, well, everything on the Internet is true, but...

1) Why is this in the present firmware and not future firmware when the iPhone is release?
2) Why is this in the Nano firmware at all?I reckon we might be looking at either an iPhone, a slightly larger Nano with the phone stuff built in.
Or, possibly, an attachment for the existing Nano that can be removed, sort of like the flip for the Sony Ericsson P900 / P910 / P990; a numberpad that covers the clickwheel but not the screen. If the keypad is up it acts like a phone, when the keypad is flipped down the clickwheel can be used and it acts just like a normal iPod. Seems to fit the apple characteristic of keeping things simple and separate - if you don't need the phone features and you just want the music, leave the attachment at home.
