What did they say?
...No new MacBooks. Foxconn/Hon Hai is simply becoming another manufacturer of the MacBook Pro. The iPhone part is interesting though: [link]
..."Confirmation" will only come when one of the following two things happen:
1) The FCC publish the Apple filing for the iPhone, as they do for all mobile phones a few months before they come to market.
2) Apple announce iPhone at a conference/on their website.

Apple Projects 25 Million iPhones in 2007

It's in the ThinkSecret report.

What did they say?

...25 Million phones in a single year? Sounds to me like Apple might be a bit over-confident
...I'm not sure how Apple is going to be so secretive of this. I can imagine a few things involving the phone.
1. Apple introduces an MVNO (Mobile Virtual Network Operator) service, with either prepaid or direct bill service, possibly offering up some sort of content (e.g. iTunes downloads, etc.)
2. Apple sells an "unlocked only" phone to be used with any network running on GSM. Phone is sold within Apple stores AND on network providers' sites and stores. Phone will be featured throughout Cingular and T-Mobile in the US and all over the place in EU.The only thing I'm wondering about, again, is their level of secrecy.
EVERY cell phone has to pass FCC inspection if it is to be released in the US. That means a picture/info will go up on the FCC website. I say good luck to Apple on hoping that it slips past the guys at Engadget Mobile if they do plan on releasing a phone.
One can hope that Apple doesn't follow suit and load the damned thing down (if they do release one) with hideous features like mini-mini camera, silly MP3 playback (how could they with the iPod?) or a slew of other "I don't need that" features. Knowing Apple, they'll turn something that we go "DUH!" to into some cleverly named service or function, reinventing how we think of using phones.

Why Apple is taking its time in launching an iPhone

the most talked-about product among Apple-watchers is one that the company has yet to admit even exists: an Apple mobile phone, or iPhone. Engadget - iChat Mobile: is it the iPhone?

WWDC's in a few days, and the predominant rumor is that the iPhone is what we're going to get from it. Could this be a leaked photo of the iPhone?

I like the concept and the name...not too crazy though about the not-so-subtle gray keypad. But, I'm not so sure that this is Apple's entry into the mobile phone business;
Here's why:
- incorrect shading on the buttons indicate that it was designed in Photoshop
- shouldn't it be in black too?
- unlikely scroll wheel; it should be probably more like that of iPod than iPod shuffle...
- a little too big...especially to compete with the enormously popular Motorola RAZR
- camera on the back is typical for a phone, but is impossible for video conferencing.
- Interesting that no battery compartment is visible though, unless you have to use their charger; might be VoIP though in which it wouldn't need a compartment for a SIM card like all cell phones available today.
- slogan seems to have a grammar issue though; "Everything you expect from a Mac, [on] a phone" not 'from' I would guess it's a fake; Apple has historically used Photoshop for their product ads, but their marketing dept. would never allow issues with a slogan and shading to pass for a final ad.Also, it's interesting that Engadget doesn't really mention the source of the images. They thank Hartan, but fail to mention how he accessed the images. Unlikely if they were real, unless he's worried that Apple legal would attack him. In that case, however, why would he give his name???Product images have only slipped once before, but that was only a few hours before the current iPod's release
- not almost a week before the supposed announcement. We all know how Apple deals with secrecy...I guess we CAN wait until Monday to find out for sure.

iPhone, iPod messenger clues in latest iPod software

An AppleInsider member by the name of VL-Tone recently dissected the latest iPod firmware update and made some interesting discoveries.

I don't believe this is fake as this has been corroborated by several people and, well, everything on the Internet is true, but...

1) Why is this in the present firmware and not future firmware when the iPhone is release?
2) Why is this in the Nano firmware at all?I reckon we might be looking at either an iPhone, a slightly larger Nano with the phone stuff built in.
Or, possibly, an attachment for the existing Nano that can be removed, sort of like the flip for the Sony Ericsson P900 / P910 / P990; a numberpad that covers the clickwheel but not the screen. If the keypad is up it acts like a phone, when the keypad is flipped down the clickwheel can be used and it acts just like a normal iPod. Seems to fit the apple characteristic of keeping things simple and separate - if you don't need the phone features and you just want the music, leave the attachment at home.

Apple filings reveal future iPod, iPhone designs!

A recent series of design filings made by Apple reveal possible future iPod interfaces. One shows what appears to be a Nano with a cell phone key pad. Is iPhone at least a consideration at Apple? It must be.

What did they say?
...Hmm, I smell a lawsuit a 'comin' [image]
...Wow. The bigger news here is that the second drawing almost exactly resembles the Toshiba Gigabeat S. Toshiba better hope they got their filing in before this one.
...So why would I buy a phone from a company that has no experience making phones. It's like buying a car that was made by John Deere. I would rather buy a SonyEricsson W800 or 810. Which is a real phone, but with the option of playing music. This would probably be a music player, but with the option to make phone calls, screw that.

At Amphetameme, we've been trying to figure out what Apple's up to next. We think it's a full-screen, touchscreen iPod that also happens to connect to every damn thing under the sun. Apple iBooks by April, 'media hub' product, iPhone within a year

"We are still confident in Apple's product road map – including potential for new iBooks by April in time for the June quarter, a potential 'media hub' product (and more services), new iPods into year-end (including a new media player) and even a new cell phone within a year."

What did they say?
...This phone wont be much of anything. If you look at Motorola and thier designs for phones, they know how to make a good product. I'm not saying that Apple couldn't make a phone, but with all the Itunes stuff on the Motorola's, I dunno if this is gonna make any impact at all
